THE STORY BEHIND THE SHOT

This month we look at an image of mine that’s from the very first magazine feature ever done on John Straub’s old 1967 911. I titled it “Rust Never Sleeps”, and it appeared in the November 2011 issue of Excellence Magazine.

John and his wife Monique scouted a suitable background east of San Diego for their car, and I arrived on what looked like a sunny day. The weather suddenly changed and was threatening to rain the whole time I was shooting. Yet, it only added to the timelessness of this “patina queen” story. It’s been repeated many times since.
