THE STORY BEHIND THE SHOT

For July, here’s a shot that was set up to look like an autocross, also known as slalom racing. It was created to run as the double page opener for a feature I had written and photographed on the sport for Excellence Magazine.

While my co-driver piloted my 1972 911 T/ST past a cone, I fired a flash and panned the camera at 1/80 of a second under stormy skies. This kept part of the car sharp and highlighted the car and orange pylon while correctly exposing the background.
