My favorite album by The Beatles was released 50 years ago this week.

It is the only Beatles album to show neither the artist name nor the album title on its front cover, despite EMI’s concern that the record would not sell without this information.

The designer Kosh later explained, “We didn’t need to write the band’s name on the cover… They were the most famous band in the world.”

The Japanese Pro-Use LP pictured is stellar, as is the UK original.
