About Randy Wells

Randy Wells has spent the last twenty-five years behind a camera. At last count, he and his partner Andrea Wells have logged more than half a million miles on the road photographing America full-time. Randy has had commissions in all but three states, and his work has appeared in over 20,000 publications, including covers for National Geographic Traveler, Outdoor Photographer, AAA and Sunset magazines. Additional clients include American Express, AT&T, Beringer, BMW, Boeing, CNN, Daimler AG, Heineken, IBM, McDonald’s, Microsoft, and Nike.

He has completed numerous editorial assignments, including features for Newsweek and The New York Times and has been profiled in Popular Photography magazine. As a new media photojournalist and teacher, Randy has written several articles for Outdoor Photographer and PC Photo and is a regular contributor to the Porsche enthusiast magazine Excellence. Awards include American Photo, AR100, Communication Arts, HOW and Graphis. His prints are held in multiple private and public collections, including the Smithsonian and the Harry Ransom Center at the University of Texas.

After specializing in landscape and animal photography, Randy has spent more than a dozen years criss-crossing America documenting travel and automotive subjects. Recently, Randy has been honored with a major print exhibition and fim at the National Steinbeck Center, on view from August 5 - October 22, 2010. Randy’s agent is presently contacting publishers about his book project “Steinbeck’s America: In Search of Travels with Charley 50 Years Later.”

Randy grew up in Cordova, Alaska, a remote wilderness village. Rooted in nature, his early vision influenced him to become a king crab fisherman and later an optometrist, but his love of images led him to travel around the world. Upon seeing Ernst Haas’ nature photo book The Creation, photography began to occupy more of his time. In 1984, he traveled to Japan to study with Haas, who inspired him to further his aspirations. After joining photo agencies now known as Getty and Corbis, Randy completed the transition from optometrist to full-time photographer in 1992. In 1996 he added cinematography skills to his creative capabilities.

Andrea and Randy have formed an extensive archive of downloadable stock photographs as well as other visual media, all of which are available for commercial and editorial licensing. Included are high quality photos and HD video of scenics, animals, cars and Americana for prints and web ready mobile pictures. Featuring creative digital photography, the agency is assignment ready to travel anywhere. For commissions, exhibitions, and other projects please contact us.
