DRIVE MY CAR

Here’s a look back at The Beatles’ catchy ’60s pop tune “Drive My Car” recorded October 13, 1965.

Paul McCartney (bass, piano, and some lead), George Harrison (lead guitar), Ringo Starr (drums, cowbell) and John Lennon (tambourine, rhythm guitar) were on to some good stuff! Paul and John share lead vocals and George backs them up.

Along with “Day Tripper” (recorded three days later), and “Nowhere Man” (recorded eight days later), “Drive My Car” is probably my favorite Beatles song. It is mostly a Paul number. John reportedly helped with the title, lyrics, and came up with the famous “beep, beep, yeah”. It was recorded during The Beatles’ first all-night session at Abbey Road in 1965 and employs a deeper bass sound than what’s found on their previous work. “Drive My Car” was first released on the album Rubber Soul. It also appeared in the US on Yesterday and Today.
