COLUMBIA RIVER GORGE

Early summer is the best time to travel to the canyon that is home to the Columbia River in the Pacific Northwest. Up to 4,000 feet deep, this canyon of high desert cliffs and lush waterfalls stretches for over 80 miles as the river winds westward through the Cascade Range to the Pacific Ocean forming the boundary between the State of Washington to the north and Oregon to the south.

Formed by the Missoula floods during the Ice Age, “The Gorge” has provided a corridor for thousands of years of transportation. First by ancient man, then by Native American Indians, and later in 1805, by the Lewis and Clark Expedition.

Today the gorge is a protected National Scenic Area that is home to kitesurfing, windsurfing, fishing, hiking and cycling, as well as general sight-seeing and photography. Great seafood restaurants and charming inns abound. The area also provides some amazing roads for touring and is the site of numerous automotive commercials. Check it out!
