It was called the Porsche 901, a model that would later become the 911 after Peugot objected to the use of \u00e2\u20ac\u01530\u00e2\u20ac\u009d as a middle digit. Thus the iconic 911 was born. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>After 12 prototypes were built, official production of the new sports car began in the summer\/fall of 1964. In all 235 were built during that year.
