OUT OF THIS WORLD

That’s what many of the amazing looking new images you see today are. They are made up, not of this world. They never existed on earth. I’d call them photographs, but they’re not, since there is no actual light involved (photo = light).

Digital manipulation, AI and apps have made it possible for anyone without visual skills to produce an image that most think is good. So many have been made that they have replaced all the real photographs ever made in sheer numbers.

It’s time to come up with a new name for this form of “photography”. What your choice? Would anyone use it if it sounds made up? How about imaginary visual representation?
