SELFIES

The subject was sure to come up sooner or later.

I avoid well-known scenic overlooks, unless I need to photograph them on assignment. Fortunately, I spent my early travel photography career hanging out at the best spots before they became widely discovered.

Today, there are precious few iconic spots in the world where you can make a photograph in the best light possible without lots of folks taking selfies. The good news is pretty much everyone leaves right after sunrise to eat breakfast.

P.S. I had a pre-cancerous growth removed recently from that part of my face not covered by the camera. It turns out I was the “Jimmy Buffett” of stock photography specializing in tropics travel during the ’80s and ’90s. Tip for the new “me generation”: use sun screen and watch your step!
