UTAH VOTES $5 MILLION TO RESTORE BONNEVILLE SALT FLATS
Just in from SaveTheSalt.org:
“This marks the first public dollars appropriated to restore the depleted salt surface since the land speed racing community began its drive to restore the flats more than 30 year ago,” said Save the Salt Foundation Vice Chairman Tom Burkland. Job well done. Land speed racers the world over said, “Thank You Utah!” Continue reading “”
PARIS-DAKAR DESERT STORM FEATURE
As you’ve probably noticed, I’ve been on the Porsche rally trail lately. With articles and films on the East Africa Safari Rally and the Baja Mexican 1000, I just can’t seem to get enough. Continue reading “”
PORSCHE WINS THE 12 HOURS OF SEBRING
Porsche’s Vice President of Motorsport Fritz Enzinger reports:
“I’ve been in motorsport for a long time, but I’ve never experienced anything like this. Within 48 hours we won a 1,000-mile race and a twelve-hour race with our factory teams at one venue. That’s phenomenal. I was impressed by how focussed every single person worked. That’s what sets Porsche apart. And we mustn’t forget the successful performances from our customer teams. It was one of the best motor racing weekends I’ve ever experienced – just brilliant.†Continue reading “”
HERE’S THE CAMERA I’VE BEEN WAITING FOR
Leica just announced their new Q2. Seems like a simple enough upgrade.
A better Q but no bigger, just like the one I currently own. Better connectivity, higher shutter speeds, a larger and higher resolution preview monitor.
Then you get to the kicker: It’s weatherproof. No more taping over the mic for fear of rain or dust.
THEN, instead of 24 MP you get 47 MP files at 28mm. Over 30 MP at 35mm. A usable 50mm file. Plus 4K video and 1920 HD up to 120 fps. Continue reading “”
VINYL, LEICA, AND THE EARLY 911 – MY STORY
You’ve probably read enough analogies of sports cars, fine cameras, and luxury audio equipment in high-end lifestyle magazines to get the idea that journalists are passionate about these things in a big way. I’m not immune, and vinyl records, Leica rangefinders, and Porsche 911s have been a fascination of mine since 1964.

VINYL, LEICAS, AND THE EARLY 911
Coming soon…
I’ve been a record collector since I bought my first LP in 1964. Still have it. Leica film cameras and lenses followed in 1979. An early Porsche 911 was something I’ve wanted since I was 16. Had to wait until 1996 for that one. Now I have multiples of everything… Continue reading “”

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY
For me, jazz pianist Bill Evans is the coolest.
Released a little over 60 years ago, the tune “Peace Piece” on his album Everybody Digs Bill Evans has everything: it’s romantic, transcendental and groundbreaking.
ROCK PHOTOGRAPHER GUY WEBSTER
Hollywood photographer Guy Webster passed away today at 79. He created several iconic ’60s album covers, including The Doors, The Byrds, Simon and Garfunkel, The Rolling Stones, The Beach Boys, and The Mamas and the Papas. Continue reading “”
THE SHOT THAT IS NO LONGER
Yesterday, the new underground viaduct opened on Seattle’s waterfront. The old elevated Alaskan Way highway closed last month. It was the best spot to make a photograph with cars driving in front of the skyline. Continue reading “”
