MEET OTIS

Kudos to Porsche Panorama creative director Richard Baron and editor Amy Skogstrom for their amazing layout and edit on my 2012 Cayenne “overlanding” story.

That summer day I spent off-roading in the Pacific Northwest with “Otis” owners, the Ranhofers, was appropriately muddy. So, we were able to get the perfect shots for the December 2016 issue of PCA’s national magazine. For more words and pictures about this exciting adventure sport see this link:

MOTOR PRESS GUILD 2016 AWARD –
BEST FEATURE ARTICLE OF THE YEAR

It was a huge honor to receive this trophy yesterday at the MPG banquet in the Marconi Museum of Orange County for my Road Scholars Magazine article “Searching For Salt”.

Thanks to everyone at RS Magazine: especially editor Randy Leffingwell, Cam Ingram, and Kevin Watts. Thanks also to the Speed Week folks at Bonneville Salt Flats, Save the Salt Coalition, 1975 Porsche 911 streamliner owner Tom Woodford, and Andrea Wells.

IT’S WHAT I DO

An automotive photographer recently confided in me that he was having trouble with his car-to-car shots.

3. Background
4. Foreground
5. Some technical stuff: Lens Choice / Shutter Speed / Aperture
6. Camera Position
7. Composition
8. The Moment

Congrats to my friend Jerry Wynne and his 1972 911 hot rod built by Phil Troiani. This car was featured in Excellence Magazine over six pages, for which I am very grateful. It’s always a pleasure when you connect with interesting characters in my line of work. Jerry’s life is one of those amazing stories you’ll feel good hearing about. Continue reading “”

THE RECORDING OF SGT. PEPPER

Disenchanted with touring, The Beatles retreated to Abbey Road Studios fifty years ago and began recording their most iconic album ever, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. By the time it was released in June ’67, they had made several giant leaps forward in the art of building an LP, cover and all. Continue reading “”

I LOVE AUTUMN

“At no other time does the earth let itself be inhaled in one smell, the ripe earth; in a smell that is in no way inferior to the smell of the sea, bitter where it borders on taste, and more honeysweet where you feel it touching the first sounds. Containing depth within itself, darkness, something of the grave almost.”
