MID-ENGINED 911 RSR
This is big news and could be the start of something new for Porsche’s iconic sports car model. Air cooled has been a thing of the past since 1998. Could rear engines be too? Look for how the new RSR does at Le Mans for an indication of what’s to come. Continue reading “”
IT’S WHAT I DO
An automotive photographer recently confided in me that he was having trouble with his car-to-car shots.
I told him the same photo tips I will tell you.
Great photos are made when the photographer is in the zone, has something to say about their subject, and puts all their attention on these eight things – unconsciously:
1. Light / Color
2. Location
3. Background
4. Foreground
5. Some technical stuff: Lens Choice / Shutter Speed / Aperture
6. Camera Position
7. Composition
8. The Moment

PRIMAL SCREAMS
I heard two primal screams two days ago. One was at 7000 rpm while riding in one of the most iconic Porsche 911s ever – a 2.5L MFI powered 1970 911ST. The other was from my television set that evening… Continue reading “”
CIVILIZED MISFIT
Congrats to my friend Jerry Wynne and his 1972 911 hot rod built by Phil Troiani. This car was featured in Excellence Magazine over six pages, for which I am very grateful. It’s always a pleasure when you connect with interesting characters in my line of work. Jerry’s life is one of those amazing stories you’ll feel good hearing about. Continue reading “”
MORE FALL COLOR
This forest of Quaking Aspens in Colorado was peaking when I came across it. I just posted some more fall color on Instagram – thanks to everyone for your warm reception to my images! Continue reading “”
THE RECORDING OF SGT. PEPPER
Disenchanted with touring, The Beatles retreated to Abbey Road Studios fifty years ago and began recording their most iconic album ever, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. By the time it was released in June ’67, they had made several giant leaps forward in the art of building an LP, cover and all. Continue reading “”
I LOVE AUTUMN
“At no other time does the earth let itself be inhaled in one smell, the ripe earth; in a smell that is in no way inferior to the smell of the sea, bitter where it borders on taste, and more honeysweet where you feel it touching the first sounds. Containing depth within itself, darkness, something of the grave almost.â€

RANDY IS NOW ON INSTAGRAM
Giving back to the photographic community, while defending its rights, has always been a priority of mine. I’ve been a member of ASMP since 1985. When Facebook bought Instagram, professionals started to feel better about posting there. Continue reading “”
996 GT3 VS. 997 GT3
Here’s my latest Road Scholars Magazine article. It profiles a comparison in the California desert between two Porsche GT3s – a 996 and a 997. Thanks again to Cam Ingram, Kevin Watts, and Randy Leffingwell for their support. Continue reading “”
PHOTO TIPS- MAKING BETTER PHONE PHOTOS
Here are some basic tips from National Geographic:
1. Avoid direct sunlight (especially from over your shoulder)
2. Choose the highest quality setting available
3. Wait for the magic hour – dawn to sunrise and sunset to dusk.
SOCIAL MEDIA RUINING ADVENTURE TRAVEL?
“Are you going on vacation to talk about it or experience it?†“Shouldn’t we get lost in our own thoughts, rather than our phone?â€
“Photography has been around for years, but the obsession with likes and dislikes has increasingly blurred people’s judgment about cultural sensitivities.” “Many guests pull out their mobile phones and start connecting with friends and downloading photos as soon as they arrive at the lodges rather than jump in the shower or explore their surroundings, as they used to in the past.†Continue reading “”

ERNST HAAS TRIBUTE WEEK
1953 First Color Photo Essay – LIFE
1962 First Color Photography Exhibition – MOMA
“As part of this week long tribute to Ernst Haas on the 30th anniversary of his death (September 12, 1986), I share my remembrance on AI-AP/Pro Photo Daily,” says my dear friend and colleague Arthur Meyerson. Arthur was there in 1984 when the opportunity came to travel with Ernst on a photo tour of Japan. That’s where I made this photo of him and our mentor. Continue reading “”
