THE BRUTAL TRUTH
Do we need more photographers? Here’s one man’s opinion. In the meantime, do work that matters. Continue reading “”
SIMPLE LIVING
Not sure I’ll ever get there, but it sure seems appealing to someone who’s got too much stuff. Continue reading “”
THE LUGGAGE COLLECTOR
And now for something completely different. If you ever wanted a look at an awesome Porsche luggage collection here’s your chance. Thanks to Road Scholars Magazine for allowing Chris Stavros and I to share his story with readers. Continue reading “”
WELCOME TO THE FUTURE WITH HASSELBLAD
The world’s first medium format mirrorless camera has arrived, the Hasselblad X1D-50c. It is smaller and lighter than either the Canon 5Ds or Leica SL and features a 50-megapixel CMOS sensor from the H6D. With an ISO range of 100 to 25600 and a dynamic range of up to 14 stops, it’ll shoot full 1080 HD video, but not 4K. Continue reading “”
NEW PANAMERA
Porsche’s newly announced Panamera is good looking. This should increase sales for what already is the hot ticket item in many metropolitan areas. The 2016 face lift will also make my job easier as a photographer. Continue reading “”
JUNE SPIEL COVER
Thanks to the editor and art director at the PCA PNWR Spiel newsletter for featuring my photograph on the cover of their June issue! Continue reading “”
PCA PANORAMA COVER
I do my best to find new angles and photo treatments for every story I take on. If I ever find myself repeating the same old shot, I will no longer consider myself a creative image maker.
Every so often I get a chance to do more – to make a photograph that goes beyond the one dimensional. Thanks to 1968 Porsche 911S owner John Binion and everyone at Panorama and Canepa for allowing me the opportunity to do that. Continue reading “”
A SAD DAY IN JUNE
There’s something about the non-manipulated files from Canon’s original 5D “Classic” camera with a 55 micro Nikkor lens. The perspective is natural, as is the color and contrast. It renders emotional values authentically. Continue reading “”
OFF THE BEATEN PATH I
Look for the first in a series of special off-the-beaten-path road trips in the next issue of Road Scholars Magazine. Continue reading “”
EVERYBODY STARTS SOMEWHERE
As a photographer, my journey started at age 10 with a Brownie. When I won an award from Kodak at 12, I probably should have known. By the summer of 1968 I knew and decided to hitchhike across San Francisco for two weeks photographing. Unfortunately, my parents still didn’t get it. My 11 rolls of undeveloped film were thrown out in the trash. Continue reading “”
R GRUPPE TREFFEN 2016
Just back from Palm Springs for a photo shoot and to see my buddies in SoCal. R Gruppe’s early Porsche 911 gathering was held in the desert this year. We got lucky on Saturday with pleasant weather. Continue reading “”
WINEMAKER’S SPECIAL: THE BURGUNDY 912
The current issue of Porsche Club of America’s Panorama Magazine features my automotive writing and photography in the lead story. The subject is a 1966 912 in a special burgundy color – a shade that matches the grapes the owners use in making their own wine. Continue reading “”
IMPOSSIBLE GERMANY, UNLIKELY JAPAN
“Where ever you go, wherever you land.”
“This was still new to me. I wouldn’t understand.”
There are great Wilco songs, and then there is “Impossible Germany”, arguably one of the best from anyone over the past ten years. The album it appears on, Sky Blue Sky, was released in May 2007 and cut to vinyl by Robert Ludwig. It sounds fantastic. Continue reading “”
EAST MEETS WEST PORSCHE GATHERINGS
Nothing succeeds like success. For ample evidence of this, just reference two recent Porsche events on the left and right coasts. Patrick Long and Al de Vera are the principal architects of these gatherings that celebrate Porsche air-cooled goodness in a way that is likely to go on for many years to come. Continue reading “”
SEATTLE IN SPRING
Spent a wonderful PCA tech session yesterday on the Porsche GT1 with Andy Pilgrim, Tony Callas, Randy Leffingwell and Jochen Rohr at Cantrell Motorsports. Then drove to my cabin from Seattle in one of my own 1972 911s. Continue reading “”
