EVERYBODY STARTS SOMEWHERE
As a photographer, my journey started at age 10 with a Brownie. When I won an award from Kodak at 12, I probably should have known. By the summer of 1968 I knew and decided to hitchhike across San Francisco for two weeks photographing. Unfortunately, my parents still didn’t get it. My 11 rolls of undeveloped film were thrown out in the trash. Continue reading “”
R GRUPPE TREFFEN 2016
Just back from Palm Springs for a photo shoot and to see my buddies in SoCal. R Gruppe’s early Porsche 911 gathering was held in the desert this year. We got lucky on Saturday with pleasant weather. Continue reading “”
WINEMAKER’S SPECIAL: THE BURGUNDY 912
The current issue of Porsche Club of America’s Panorama Magazine features my automotive writing and photography in the lead story. The subject is a 1966 912 in a special burgundy color – a shade that matches the grapes the owners use in making their own wine. Continue reading “”
IMPOSSIBLE GERMANY, UNLIKELY JAPAN
“Where ever you go, wherever you land.”
“This was still new to me. I wouldn’t understand.”
There are great Wilco songs, and then there is “Impossible Germany”, arguably one of the best from anyone over the past ten years. The album it appears on, Sky Blue Sky, was released in May 2007 and cut to vinyl by Robert Ludwig. It sounds fantastic. Continue reading “”
EAST MEETS WEST PORSCHE GATHERINGS
Nothing succeeds like success. For ample evidence of this, just reference two recent Porsche events on the left and right coasts. Patrick Long and Al de Vera are the principal architects of these gatherings that celebrate Porsche air-cooled goodness in a way that is likely to go on for many years to come. Continue reading “”
SEATTLE IN SPRING
Spent a wonderful PCA tech session yesterday on the Porsche GT1 with Andy Pilgrim, Tony Callas, Randy Leffingwell and Jochen Rohr at Cantrell Motorsports. Then drove to my cabin from Seattle in one of my own 1972 911s. Continue reading “”
TALE OF TWO TARGAS
The April issue of Porsche Club of America’s Panorama Magazine includes nine pages of my automotive photographs accompanying Mark Titterton’s text. His story tells the tale of two red Targas born 45 years apart. Continue reading “”
TRUE TURBO
My latest article in the on-line Road Scholars Magazine reminds us of simpler times and the original Porsche 930. Thanks again to Cam, Kevin, and Randy. Continue reading “”

HERE ARE YOUR CAPTIONS!
“This SI swimsuit edition gets better every year!”
“They say whomever finds the key first gets to keep the car.”
“And he reached in here to get the tool kit and something grabbed him and pulled him in. That was the last time anyone saw him.”
“Come on, 7 or 11…”
“It’s a boy!”
“is that an original washer!?”
“I think that little nut fell off over here…” Continue reading “”

WHAT IS IT THAT INSPIRES YOU?
Anyone who’s an artist at their craft knows this is the eternal question that compels a soul to keep pushing the envelope. The secret is to make sure you are rewarded for working harder, so you can fulfill your destiny – even if it takes awhile. Continue reading “”
AN UNLIKELY VALENTINE
Magnus means “great” in Latin. Like him or not, it’s been hard to ignore Magnus Walker, whose media attention has shone a light on air-cooled Porsches. And that’s contributed to their rise in value over the past five years – for good or for bad. Continue reading “”
