CINCO DE MAYO
“In America, Cinco de Mayo has become an excuse to eat Mexican food and drink margaritas. But in Mexico, it’s celebrated a bit differently. The holiday actually commemorates a military victory, when Mexico defeated the French in 1862.” Continue reading “”

PORSCHE MACAN MEETS THE CASCADES
Coming soon to PCA members is a story on Porsche’s 2014 Macan CUV. It’s a look back on a PNW owner’s experiences over the past nine months. Shot entirely in the rain with owner Wendy Gulick at the wheel! Continue reading “”
JOSEF KOUDELKA
Josef Koudelka: Nationality Doubtful
November 11, 2014 – March 22, 2015
Getty Center, Los Angeles
“An aeronautical engineer by training, Josef Koudelka… became intensely committed to photography by the mid-1960s and quickly emerged as one of the most influential, iconoclastic photographers of his generation. This exhibition—the first U.S. retrospective devoted to Koudelka since 1988 — traces his legendary career with more than 140 works produced over five decades. It marks the first time that the work of one contemporary photographer will fill the Center for Photographs at the Getty.”
Don’t miss it.
TIME OFF
After three months of solid work, I’m caught up (sort of). Writing and planning my next project at my island cabin has been very productive and creative for me. Continue reading “”

NEW LEICA STORE IN BELLEVUE WA
Thanks to Tom Smith and Brad Weeks for accommodating me in their busy schedule during the grand opening of the new Leica Store in Bellevue, Washington.

LOOKING FORWARD
2015 is sure to be an interesting year. The Porsche community has a lot to look forward to with Rennsport Reunion V scheduled for the fall in Monterey. Held every four years, it is a must see event for any car enthusiast. I will be producing a documentary film on Roger Grago to debut there, and I’ll be revisiting Speed Week at the Bonneville Salt Flats for a future book. Also, there are some amazing editorial stories to come as well – Pre-A 356s, early 911 racing cars, an iconic 914-6, and many others.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
WHERE TO GO IN EUROPE THIS WINTER
Forget London and Paris, too cold. Same for the rest of northern Europe.
Here are a couple of getaway spots to view art in relative warmth. In Barcelona check out the Picasso and Miro museums. In Italy, well, you are spoilt for choice in art: Venice, Florence, or Rome. Finally, head to the islands off Naples, such as Procida pictured below, and be inspired for some R&R and photography. Continue reading “”
I BROKE ALL THE RULES
“NEVER shoot a car on a parking lot with stripes.”
“NEVER shoot a car in hard light.”
“NEVER shoot a car with just a rangefinder camera.”
Yup, I broke all the rules and still got published. Excellence Magazine #225 will arrive this month featuring a story I wrote and photographed on a DIY Porsche 912 project. Jason Thrupp is the owner, a New Zealander who relocated to Santa Barbara – two of my favorite destinations. Continue reading “”
PERSONAL WORK – 2014
Each December/January I post a personal work series – what I consider my best three images from a non-assignment single location during the year. It is an entirely subjective process, unlike my edited commercial work. Last year I posted three low key photos captured within a few days in Cabo San Lucas.
THE RETURN OF ROGER GRAGO’S 911 RS/GT
A special party took place at Scott Hendry’s independent Porsche shop in Anaheim on Saturday. Over 100 people arrived to show their love for Roger Grago. It was simply amazing to see him and his friends celebrate this iconic freshly rebuilt (Hendry) and repainted (Esposito) custom 1973 Aubergine 911. Many people were involved in this labor of love for our dear friend.
With all the car clubs he has led, from DKP to R Gruppe, Roger is the man who made it happen for many of us. Thank you Roger, and thank you to everyone for sharing their stories. Look for an article and documentary film next year. Continue reading “”
AS SUMMER ENDS
It’s been a great year. Unfortunately, Speed Week at Bonneville was cancelled (again). Weather is one thing you cannot control. Thankfully I was able to photograph the World of Speed event at the salt flats as well as the Pikes Peak Hill Climb earlier in 2014. Here are some non-assignment images I can share.
