CARRERA PANAMERICANA IN A PORSCHE 911
Excellence magazine has done it again in issue #213. They’ve profiled a Porsche owner who is a true enthusiast and racer. He is Walt Sikes, a competitor who chose the early 911 as his weapon of choice. Check out his pair of 1965 build 911s.
Here’s an excerpt from my article (Thanks Greg Brown and John Kirikos!): Continue reading “”
FERRARI
Along with Porsches, I am often given the opportunity to photograph other marques on assignment. Recently these have included Ferrari, Lamborghini and BMW.
Ferrari for me symbolizes Italian design combined with speed and excitement. From the engine note to the sculpted lines of the car, there is something unique about the best examples. Continue reading “”
159 MPH SHOPPING CART
Congrats to Nick Stenn on his Excellence magazine feature in the latest issue #212. Driving, photographing, and telling the story of his Slant Nose 930 was a blast. He took his highly modified turbocharged Porsche to Bonneville, made it into the 150 MPH club, and now uses it for hauling groceries! Continue reading “”
WHERE TO GO IN JULY/AUGUST?
If you happen to live in a climate that gets a bit too hot in the summer months, perhaps Europe is a destination for you. Weather is ideal for vacationing and photography, and if you like automobile racing the Formula 1 calendar is just getting started over there. The Great Britain Grand Prix is this weekend, followed by Germany, Hungary, Belgium, and Italy. Ciao! Continue reading “”
SUMMER’S HERE!
There are two things that car photographers love about summer in the PNW: track days and car shows. I was fortunate enough to be at each of these this past weekend. During a break in my assignment schedule, I taught at a PCA drivers education event and photographed a local classic hot rod display. Think I’ll try to make it to the Redmond meet to see more Ferraris and maybe find another Buick “Godess” hood ornament. Continue reading “”
PORSCHE 991 GT3 WITH CHRIS HARRIS
Here’s the latest video that’s circling Porschedom. Chris Harris produced this short on the just released and extremely capable PDK-only GT3. You can read more about this somewhat controversial new Porsche in the May issue of Panorama magazine. Continue reading “”
TLG AUTO
It’s good to be home after a busy May. A California road trip in my 1972 911 with friends was a great adventure. The early 911 Porsche club, R Gruppe, held a fantastic gathering near the central coast where some of the best driving is. Marco and Tony Gerace of TLG Auto in North Hollywood were there to help me get to a track day at Willow Springs when my car developed a small transmission leak. Those guys are the best. Look for my feature on Tony and his car soon in Excellence Magazine! Continue reading “”
HURLEY HAYWOOD REUNITES WITH HIS 1973 SEBRING WINNING PORSCHE 911 RSR
Hurley Haywood is reunited with his ’73 Porsche RSR on the 40th Anniversary of his first 12 Hours of Sebring win. Haywood, considered the world’s most successful endurance driver, discusses what makes this race so special, his back-to-back endurance wins at Daytona and Sebring, and what a difference forty years can make to the racing scene. FEAST OF FRIENDS
I’m lucky to have Bob Tilton as a friend, along with all my other early Porsche chums. Here’s a photo he posted recently from the 2011 Rennsport Reunion IV in Monterey. Bob was there making some amazing images, and happened to choose me as a subject. For more on his photgraphy and lfe experiences, please see his WerkCrew blog, plus a cool video with a couple of Tilton blog images: Continue reading “”
WHAT’S ANOTHER 50 BUCKS?
Is a modified 1989-1994 964 really the ‘90s R Gruppe 911? All the Internet chat on these last of the classic shaped Porsches might actually have you believing it. Driving one would probably seal the deal. Well, having done so, I’m pretty sure Geoff Newman’s 1993 RS America 911 hot rod would do the convincing. Continue reading “”

THE PRANCING CLYDESDALE
Thanks to Aaron Jenkins and David Seibert for their collaboration in producing this story for Forza Magazine. The John Goodman owned Ferrari 308 GTB race car sponsored by Budweiser and driven by actor Paul Newman was a blast to shoot! Continue reading “”
2013 PORSCHE CAYMAN THRASHED
Here’s my pick for car test video of the year. Chris Harris even outdoes himself on this one. Being candid about a car’s shortcomings and transparent about it’s strengths, is not easy for any journalist. He does it here. Continue reading “”
PORSCHE 911: 50 YEARS AGO – BEGINNINGS
At this time 50 years ago, plans were well underway at Porsche to build a replacement for the 356 sports car. The Porsche family, Helmuth Bott, and Hans Mezger were plenty busy in Stuttgart as decisions were being made as to the car’s shape, engine and suspension. Continue reading “”
