PIGS (Three Different Ones)
It’s 2017 and the first day of fall. It doesn’t seem possible that it’s been forty years since Pink Floyd released Animals. This album is still a great listen. Especially this track. All 17 minutes of it. The original UK vinyl sounds incredible. This is true for all Pink Floyd LPs, including the holy grail for record collectors. Continue reading “”
PETE TURNER
One of the original master color photographers (Ernst Haas and Jay Maisel are two others), Pete Turner passed away today. He was 83. Pete made many of the most iconic jazz album covers of all time. Photo District News voted him as one of the 20 most influential photographers of all time. Continue reading “”

WALTER BECKER (1950-2017)
The elusive genius and co-founder of Steely Dan passed away five days ago. I’ve been listening to a lot of his music lately, and the hits he co-wrote with Donald Fagen are legendary: “Rikki Don’t Lose That Number”, “Kid Charlemagne”, “Katy Lied”, “Aja”, “Hey Nineteen”, and the autobiographical “Third World Man”. Continue reading “”

SAVE THE SALT IS WORKING
As Speed Week at the Bonneville Salt Flats celebrates its 68th anniversary, three organizations representing racers and industry are in discussions with a potash mine operator on ways to increase the amount of brine being pumped back into the salt flats. Continue reading “”
MEXICAN 1000 FILM AND ARTICLE PREMIERE
The Porsche Club of America just launched my six-minute video about a pair of Rothsport Porsche 964s racing in the 2017 Baja Mexican 1000 Safari Rally.
After five days of blasting over 1,000 miles of rough terrain, the team beat all the odds by not only finishing but winning a trophy, a feat no Porsche has ever accomplished in Mexico. Until now. Continue reading “”
THE STORY BEHIND THE SHOT
Summer’s here and it’s time for a blistering image that has an interesting back story.
Bonneville Salt Flats is ground zero for land speed records. It’s also a cooker in the summer. The white surface acts like a huge reflector that throws light everywhere. This portrait is one example.
I had set up a flash to camera right and was ready to set my exposure. I fired a test shot, but it was way overexposed at 1/13 of a second. Continue reading “”
LONG MAY YOU RUN
Congrats to Michael Hammond and Don Ahearn for appearing in the current issue of Panorama Magazine with their 1967 911S. It’s one of the longest continually raced 911s in the world! What a blast it was to photograph and write about this iconic vintage race car. Continue reading “”
