BEING THERE
“Last spring, on the final day of a 15-day trip spent chasing storms with his brother and meteorologist friends in Colorado, James Smart of Melbourne, Australia, snapped the photo that won the newly announced grand prize in the 2015 National Geographic Photo Contest.” – from Gear Patrol. WHERE TO GO(A) IN 2016?
Never been to India… although I’ve always wanted to. There’s a former Portuguese province on the idyllic west coast of the country whose motto is “Truth Alone Triumphs”. It’s a popular destination for its laid back beaches, places of worship, biodeversity and world heritage architecture. It also has perfect weather in January/February. Continue reading “”
A GUIDE TO AUTOCROSS IN PCA MAGAZINE
To write and photograph about a subject as dear to my heart as autocross is an honor. Thanks to Pete Stout for allowing me to see this one through to completion. Thanks also to Richard Baron for his amazing design, which never ceases to amaze me. More thanks to the national autocross champions who participated. And finally, thanks to Jeff Barstow, who has been my driving partner for over 15 years. Continue reading “”
PERSONAL WORK – 2015
At the end of each year I pick a personal work series, what I consider my best three images from a non-assignment single location. It’s an entirely subjective process, unlike my edited commercial work.

This time of year I’m thinking about traveling to someplace warmer. Call me the November Man. Mexico, South America, Australia, New Zealand, or my personal favorite, Bora Bora. Continue reading “”
AS NICE AS PIE 356
Congrats to Michael Copperthite and his 1953 356 vintage race car just published in a feature I completed for the great guys at Road Scholars.
Michael found his Porsche pre-A 356 on eBay. It looked a mess, but something about the poorly painted coupe appealed to him. It was 95% complete, had seatbelts out of a P-51 Mustang fighter, and a rally clock out of a B-24 Liberator bomber. Continue reading “”
WORLD ENDURANCE CHAMPIONSHIP GOES TO PORSCHE
By winning the Shanghai WEC event today, Porsche achieved a total of 308 points, putting the manufacturer beyond the reach of Audi (238 points) and Toyota (137 points) with one race to go. This overall win is Porsche’s 13th world title as a constructor in endurance racing. Continue reading “”
MY FIRST CAR
A 1970 Mercury Capri in red with a Cherry Bomb muffler and rolled fenders for bigger wheels & tires. Everyone’s first car is special – if just for the memories… like tent camping in California. Continue reading “”
