1917 & FORD V FERRARI

Is Roger Deakins the best cinematographer working today?

Here are some stills from the movie 1917 that he shot with Sam Mendes directing. Mostly one-take in low-contrast light and period muted color, it covers a 24 hour period in 2 hours. I saw it in a L.A. movie theatre yesterday.

This film was reportedly shot with steady cam and the ARRI Alexa Mini LF, a full-frame yet very small camera, using a 32mm fov prime most of the time.

Also, after seeing Ford v. Ferrari with Randy Leffingwell in the movie theatre recently, that film tops them all for my favorite motorsports movie of all time. Recommended!
