The Fall 2020 issue of 000 Magazine tells a story about the original material used on the outside of the Porsche 914 roof. My images illustrate the unique textures used in the early ’70s. Yes, it’s esoteric and a bit complicated.
Christoph Maeder did the research and wrote the text. Lighting and photographing this assignment for Pete Stout and his NOS 914 roof proved to be a new challenge for me. After setting up my on-location studio, plus doing some experimentation, I ended up using two lights to reveal the differences in texture on the sail side flat panels and the two sections of the roof.
One flash unit was fired up from the floor, and the other was suspended above on the other side from behind. Spending the extra time to carefully balance these lights was just part of my job and being professional.
