SOMETIMES YOU NEED TO TRY SOMETHING DIFFERENT
Everyone knows I’m a Porsche fan. When I need something different, my choice tends towards Italian. A 1970s Maserati Merak or Bora is always a good choice.

BE CAREFUL KNOWING YOUR HEROES TOO WELL –
A.K.A. WHILE MY GUITAR GENTLY WEEPS
Mentors are important. Heroes can be as well.
When you first meet your hero, you will be less than objective. Every thing you hear from that person will be colored by your preconceptions. Until it’s not. Continue reading “”
935 STORY
Thanks to PCA’s Panorama Magazine for publishing my Porsche 935 story on the cover and over 13 pages inside their April 2021 issue.
Thanks also to the 1977 Mecarrillos 935’s restoration team (Gunnar Racing), Kevin Jeannette and Sharon Jeannette, for offering me a pit pass to RR VI. More thanks to driver Rod Emory and the Meccarillos 935 owner for their trust in me to present the story accurately. Continue reading “”

YOU WILL NEVER KNOW WHO I AM
The life of a true artist is unique and unlikely to be knowable in its entirety to many, if any at all. Continue reading “”
50 MM AND BEYOND
These are the focal lengths that many lifestyle and automotive art directors like to see used in your photo submissions. That’s because these normal to telephoto images tend to be flattering for portraits and cars, and they work well in print or on the web. Continue reading “”
THANK YOU ROAD & TRACK
A recent issue of R&T included a photo I made of Rolly Resos’s R Gruppe 1966 Porsche 911. Originally shot for Excellence Magazine a few years ago, the image location is where R Gruppe first met in 2000 – Cambria, CA.
Rolly and I were there at the beginning, and we’ve been to every R Gruppe Treffen ever since. A great guy and a good friend.
ICE QUEEN
It’s always a good idea to expand your client base in today’s editorial world. The Porsche 356 has become one of my favorite cars to photograph. So, when I was given the opportunity to capture an all original 33K-mile 1958 coupe in the snow this winter, I jumped at the chance.
The result is my first feature in the Porsche 356 Registry Magazine. Check it out! Ten pages of words and pictures this month!
ERNST HAAS – HIS 100TH BIRTHDAY
Ernst Haas, the pioneer of color photographic essays, would have been 100 years old today.
He created the first magazine color photo-essay in LIFE in 1962. He became the first color photographer to have his own exhibit at MOMA shortly thereafter. He made this photo of a fall leaf in 1964.
A very good friend of mine, and a fellow student of Haas, Arthur Meyerson, posted this on Facebook today. I was there at the Ernst Haas Worksop in Japan with Arthur in 1984. I couldn’t have said it better.
WINNER – BEST SOCIAL MEDIA – MOTOR PRESS GUILD
Thank you MPG!
It’s an honor to receive this prestigious award from the Motor Press Guild for excellence in automotive journalism.
My wife, Andrea, is really the one who deserves this trophy for her constant support and social media expertise.

RAW AND HONEST
There’s always more stuff to acquire. So, how much is enough?
Very few people ask this question of themselves.
Van Life folks do it every day. Check out the film Nomadland!
Long before Instagram, my wife and I lived that mobile dream for awhile. It was a good time camping on and off the road for eight years. My Steinbeck’s America book project resulted from that experience:
TO THE HEIGHTS
That’s the slogan of my alumni, the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma Washington.
It can mean whatever you want. To me it means going through life to the best of my ability.
Here’s a shot of Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park in Big Sur, California looking north made from my drone at 400 feet last spring.
MOVING FORWARD
A broken country mourns and tries to heal, as it works again to become the United States of America.
I’ll be finished with my Covid-19 vaccination regime in March and look forward to traveling on assignment across the USA soon!!
HAPPY NEW YEAR
Most of us probably would like to forget about last year and might even want to skip this year…
Here’s a tribute I created for the late Notorious R.B.G. near my home. Hope this cheers you up a little.
(This series consists of macro images I made of a 1973 Porsche Carrera RS Safari #19 1:43 scale model on my front steps. The real car competed in the 1974 East African Rally. My full feature of that 911 can seen in the January 2017 issue of PCA Panorama Magazine)
